Keeping
Betta gladiator from an Aquarist View
Housing |
Betta gladiator is a very aggressive species from
reports. Pairs should be housed in a 55 gallon tank. Pairs should be
given cover such as caves and plants. |
Water Conditions |
Gladiator comes from blackwater environments. Other
members of the unimaculata complex are fairly tolerant of varied water
conditions some only breed when the pH is below 6. |
Sexing |
Males have a broader head then females. Males may have
longer extensions of their bottom lips. Females ovaries might be
visible via spotlighting. |
Reproduction |
Gladiator is a paternal mouthbrooder and the male
should incubate from 12 to 18 days with 14 days being very
consistent. Incubation time can vary with water temperature. Females
normally initiate spawning. |
Similar Species |
Similar species would be unimaculata complex members. |
